About KARNATAKA VETERINARY, ANIMAL & FISHERIES SCIENCE UNIVERSITY:

The Government of Karnataka took bold steps in establishing the new University called Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University on the floor of the Legislative Assembly after realizing the loss of two decades of prime development in the growth of animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries under the establishment of Agricultural Universities. The Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries University Act of 2004 (Karnataka Act No. 9 of 2004), which established the KVAFSU, was released in the Karnataka Gazette Extra-Ordinary on the 23rd day of February 2004. In Karnataka, the University was founded specifically to advance education and learning, conduct research, provide extension education, and transfer rural-oriented innovations in the fields of veterinary, animal, dairy, and fisheries sciences.

The University's tagline, "Farmers Friendly and Rural Oriented," is imprinted on its logo and underlines the value placed on the improvement of the farming community. Its first Vice-Chancellor, Prof. R.N. Sreenivas Gowda, was appointed and served in that capacity from September 2004 till February 9th, 2008. From February 10 until July 24, 2008, Prof. G.S. Bhat and Dr. S. Mallikarjunappa afterwards served as acting vice chancellors. The University's second Vice Chancellor was Prof. Suresh Honnappagol. As of September 21, 2012, Dr. C. Renukaprasad will serve as the University's third vice chancellor.

To deliver higher education of a professional caliber in many veterinary, animal, and fishing science fields. to promote the development of knowledge and the pursuit of research in veterinary, animal, and allied disciplines. to work with the relevant government departments to carry out the Extension Education of such specialist knowledge and transfer of technology to the needy rural farmers.
