About the AL KARIM UNIVERSITY:
The Bihar district of Katihar was singled out for special attention in terms of development and education in the year 1986 under the National Education Policy. The Ministry of Minority Affairs further noted that while having a lot of potential, this backward region with a high concentration of minorities remains far behind in fields like education and healthcare.
Al-Karim Educational Trust, Patna was established in the year 1986, and subsequently Katihar Medical College was established by the trust in May 1987, in accordance with the recommendation of Sunil Mukherjee Committee and Mudaliar Committee, constituted during the era of the then Chief Minister of Bihar, that a medical college be established in Katihar or Nalanda Medical College be shifted from Patna to Katihar.
By means of the Bihar Private Universities Act of 2013, the trust founded Al-Karim University, Katihar, and in 2019, the University Grants Commission (UGC) recognised the institution. Katihar was accepted into the university not long after Katihar Medical College was founded. The institution keeps creating academic programmes and doing research in an effort to improve the future.
